Explore cubes, spheres, Platonic solids, and more in an interactive 3D viewer with lighting presets, spatial mode, and exact geometry calculations.
How to Use the 3D Shape Visualizer
Select a primitive shape, adjust its dimensions with the numeric inputs, and explore the live 3D model with rotate and zoom gestures. Switch render modes, lighting presets, and camera angles, then copy a share link that restores your exact view.
Supported 3D Primitives
This tool supports cubes, prisms, spheres, cylinders, cones, pyramids, tori, Platonic solids (tetrahedron, octahedron, icosahedron, dodecahedron), capsules, and ellipsoids. Each shape updates instantly in the viewport and shows exact volume, surface area, and key measurements.
Volume and Surface Area Formulas
All displayed values use standard geometric formulas with deterministic calculations. Ellipsoid surface area uses the Knud Thomsen approximation. Results are rounded to two decimal places for readability while internal math keeps full precision.
Render Modes and Camera Views Explained
Solid mode shows a filled mesh, wireframe reveals edges, and transparent mode helps you see overlapping surfaces. Camera presets reposition the view to front, top, side, or isometric angles for quick comparison.
Lighting Presets
Choose from studio, dramatic, soft, rim, warm, or cool lighting to highlight edges, depth, and surface detail. Lighting is included in share links so collaborators see the same presentation.
Spatial Viewing on Apple Vision Pro
On supported headsets and browsers, use View in spatial mode to open an immersive WebXR session. On Apple Vision Pro, enable WebXR in Safari settings, then pinch to interact with the shape in your space.
Frequently Asked Questions
What shapes can I visualize?
The visualizer supports thirteen primitives: cube, rectangular prism, sphere, cylinder, cone, square pyramid, torus, tetrahedron, octahedron, icosahedron, dodecahedron, capsule, and ellipsoid. Select any shape to update the 3D model and dimension controls.
How are volume and surface area calculated?
Values use exact geometric formulas for each primitive. Platonic solids use standard edge-length formulas, and ellipsoid surface area uses the Knud Thomsen approximation. Displayed numbers are rounded to two decimal places.
What lighting presets are available?
Six presets are available: studio (balanced), dramatic (high contrast), soft (diffuse), rim (edge highlight), warm (sunset tones), and cool (blue tones). Your lighting choice is saved in share links.
Can I view shapes on Apple Vision Pro?
Yes, on devices with WebXR support. Tap View in spatial mode to enter an immersive session. On Vision Pro, enable WebXR in Safari feature flags, then use pinch gestures to interact with the model.
What do the render modes mean?
Solid shows a filled surface, wireframe highlights edges only, and transparent uses semi-opaque shading so you can inspect overlapping geometry.
Can I share my current view?
Yes. Use Copy share link to copy a URL with the active shape, dimensions, render mode, lighting, and camera preset encoded as query parameters.
Does this tool upload my data?
No. Rendering and calculations run entirely in your browser. No login, uploads, or third-party geometry APIs are required.
